Sizing
Sizing- Yikes! The most important thing to bear in mind when buying clothes is that different designers cut differently in maternity just like they do in non-maternity. Sometimes you will wear an XS and sometimes a M (truly, it happens every day). We have given you as much information and details for each style as we can think of, but please don’t hesitate to contact us with all of your questions. We are used to looking at our customers and knowing what will work. We can’t do that in cyberspace, but we’re going to do the best we can.
A few guidelines:
- If you are between sizes, size up. The nature of pregnancy is that you will be getting bigger, and for once in your life, it’s okay---in fact, it's good!
- Plan on ordering your pre-pregnancy size unless the directive for a certain item indicates differently.
- We have tried our very hardest to give you as much detail as possible on each item, but no doubt we have missed a few, so feel free to contact us with questions.
- Make sure that your bra fits, and (how shall we say delicately?), lifts those puppies up where they oughta be. They’ve increased up to 30% in weight and they deserve a little support, don't you think?
- When buying jeans, remember that they stretch---almost a full size. When you get your jeans try them on and sit down in them. Are they comfortable? Remember how your non-maternity jeans stretch out through the day. Guess what? These will do the same, and we don’t want you running around town with a saggy butt. Many styles we recommend that you go up one size because they run on the very tiny side, but don’t buy jeans too big. Again, have a question? Contact us.
- Remember to make sure that things fit where you are not growing---at the shoulders and back, for example. The point of these clothes is to fit where you are not growing, and give you room in the belly where the baby is growing.
- If you contact us, be prepared with a few numbers if you have time (otherwise we’ll improvise). Measure your bust at the fullest point (don’t tell us what size bra you wore before you were pregnant, because, quite honestly, if you are still wearing it, we will need to sell you a new bra). Measure the length from shoulder to shoulder on your favorite top or jacket (because, wonder of wonders, miracle of miracles, this doesn’t tend to change!) and your hips under the baby where your derriere is the biggest, and gather any other useful information that might help us help you, like the inseam on your favorite pants.
- If you buy something early on and grow out of it, don’t despair. Almost all of our things can be worn post-partum, and (we hope that we’re not the first ones to be breaking this to you) most of us don’t go back to our pre-pregnancy clothes right away. The idea is to buy clothes that you like, so although you may be sick of some of them (let’s face it, you wear them like something that you’ve worn for 3 or 4 years because your wardrobe is more limited), you may rediscover them later and love them all over again before the next pregnancy.
