About Us
Mom's the Word was founded with the belief that pregnant women were just women..who were pregnant. Women, women who love to look and feel their best-and that this might even be more important when you're pregnant and have no idea what your body is doing on a weekly basis.
We offer an extensive mix of styles, shapes and prices. We are about fashion, so, jeans are key-premium or not, a basic black skirt-pencil or A-line is a basic for many, and the rest is about celebrating, about leaving the house feeling great.
So, who are we?
First, a word on our models:
Our Summer 2013 models were; Annie (who was a Fall 2012 model while pregnant and came back to model post-partum-we love you Annie!!), Claudia (baby #1), Kristen (baby #3), Crystal(another brand new mom who wanted to join the fun) and Ashley (baby #2).
We try to use only non-professional models, so, if you or anyone you know wants to be a MOM model, just shoot us off an e-mail with a current photo and a due date-hello@momsthewordmaternity.com.
Now, about us:
We are all people who love hanging out with pregnant women and playing dress-up and make over. (come on, admit it, despite the tears and the freaking out over who has possessed your body, you're a pretty happy lot, and hanging out with you, helping you dress that possessed body, is fun for us) We love it when you look good. It makes us really happy. Truth.
A plug for our amazing photographer, Rob Prideaux www.robprideaux.com. We were fortunate enough to start working with him early on in his career, so, while fashion shoots are not his focus, he still does our shoots, and he is hands down THE BEST. Most of our models are a little nervous, since only a few have ever had a modeling gig and he always makes them look great. We love that no one suspects that they aren't professional models. Thanks Rob:)
And, about us.We all love fashion and we all have different styles-
- Emily loves her designers and wears prints well. (Tory and Marc might want to consider sending her a personal thank you card,) She always looks chic, fresh and put together-when out to dinner or when leaving the gym,she always looks good. We lover her...but we sorta hate her for that.
- Sarah wears black, and is considering adding grey "for color", Timeless and chic, she is always looked to as the model for fashion.
- Kate is just pretty much adorable and can be found wearing something from the store at least 50% of the time, although she is teeny tiny and not "with child" in any way shape or form. And, in addition to being adorable and fun and cute, she is crazy creative-she danced in the other day with our favorite Origami Top done up in it's hundred and 11th variation. Where'd she learned that? "Oh, I just played around in front of the mirror." .
- Nancy always puts it together and "it" almost always involves a drapey cardigan of sorts-linen or cotton in the summer, cashmere in the winter. She always looks absolutely "smashing". (and her English husband agrees)
- Hannah is just too cute! She got bangs the other day after watching Audrey Hepburn's Sabrina, and she takes fashion "risks" that don't even register as a risk, they just register "fabulous"-think cute floral cotton voile skirt over leggings and leopard print smoking shoes. She is just fetching!
- Gloria comes to us from Italy, with a stint in London en route. As a stylist to the stars-Charlize Theron, John Hannah and others-she exudes elegance and is our saavy fashionista. She knows fashion:)
Put yourself in the hands of any of the above and let us know what you think, and how you feel. 16 years of making people feel great means we feel pretty comfortable saying, we think you'll feel great too.
We are a group who believe the following:
- that you can't judge a book by it's cover, but people do it anyhow, and therefore when you look good you feel good and people react to you differently
- that everyone has the potential to look fabulous
- that every moment is precious and every child wonderful
- that if there is anything in your closet that makes you feel fat you should throw it out- immediately!
- that everyone should dance
- that you should never throw out the things in your closet that you love, never, and some of them will come back. witness: leggings, platform shoes, shoulder pads are back sorta kinda a little...anyhow, if you love it, hold onto it, wear it, and have fun!
- that our childrens' futures are important and we have the responsibility to provide them with the best outcome, so we offset our climate impact with every UPS shipment we make, we encouarge going bagless (and have a monthly raffle to support your doing so) and give away reusable bags with purchases.
We hope
- that you feel great while you are pregnant
- that you will let us know about your experience in our stores-good or bad, at hello@momsthewordmaternity.com
- that shoulder pads never come back...although, we have to admit..they worked really well for some people in the 1940's, so, we reserve the right to change our mind on this one
- that you think that your baby is adorable, even at 3 am when you are totally sleep deprived and feel like s$#@
We know
- that a pregnant woman can look just as sexy, just as chic, just as stylish, just as hot, just as good as anyone else, maybe even more so
- that being a mother may very well be the hardest job on earth
- that being a mother is definitely the best job on earth
- that real live pregnant friends and customers make the best pregnant models (so,if you want to join the fun and model hello@momsthewordmaternity.com)
- that sometimes pregnancy is not glamorous, but that it is totally worth all the un-glam things happening, and we can help with the glamour piece
- that glamour means different things to different people
- that we love what we do
- that a good bra makes all the difference
- that we love fashion and that even if you don't in the same way that we do, that you should feel good about yourself when you get dressed every morning (yes, every morning-even during the first 3 months post partum)
